Central Cee- Doja, WHY?
Why? Just Why?
The song, Doja, by a United Kingdom rapper established in the Greater London area by Central Cee, entails a song that will set society back for generations. Consequently, the open line for this song states, " How can I be homophobic? My bitch is gay", which is an incredibly bizarre way to start a song, especially when it entails such a confounding lyric like this one. To further dissect this lyric, we as a society have to establish the ludicrous statement this is and how it affects gender, sexuality, and society. Moreover, Central Cee, a known rapper, is dating a bi-sexual woman, and while she is definitely right to claim whatever side of the sexuality spectrum she may reside in at the moment, it is just that by allowing her non-LGBTQ partner to create a song that puts a heterosexual view on her obvious bi-sexuality or even more so pansexuality, it ruins the representation and voice many LGBTQ members have fought for. Not to mention the fact that Central Cee refers to Madeline as his bitch, and not as his girlfriend, which is questionable enough behavior at that. I feel like songs like this especially showcase the way our society is behaving at a current moment in time, especially regarding gender and sexuality. This song was used in various Tik Tok and other social media platforms as a joke, mock, or gimmick, but that in itself begets the question of what about this statement or song is funny. I get that the song is ludicrous and so nonsensical that it causes some people to laugh, but the origins of that laughter come from a deeper sense of internalized homophobia, as neither the girlfriend nor the girlfriend's sexuality is being respected in that song or by him. Later on in the song, Central Cee goes on to make an even more homophobic comment that states, " Huggin' my burdens and say that I love them, but I don't swing that way." Thus, by this ideology of internalized homophobia and over-toxic masculinity, Central Cee is directly disrespecting his friends by not allowing for his friends to explore their gender and emotions without having the sent him of homophobia and toxic masculinity on it. It diverts any actual friendship, or even more so, humanity. Furthering this point of disrespect, I feel that by spreading this harmful ideology, Central is again disrespecting his girlfriend's sexuality as she is bi-sexual. As common stereotypes for members of the LGBTQ are that they are for everyone or that they are promiscuous, which is a complete denial of what bi-sexuality or what gayness is, as homosexuality and the LGBTQ have standards, they just have sexual attractions to certain types of genders and or expressions. By producing and sending out this song to mass amounts of people, Central allows our society to take a step back in discussions regarding sexuality, gender, and society.
Central Cee's Lyrics:
How can I be homophobic?
My bitch is gay
Hit man in the top
Try see a man topless, even the stick is gay
Huggin' my bruddas and say that I love them
But I don't swing that way
The mandem celebrate Eid
The trap still runnin' on Christmas day
Somebody tell Doja Cat
That I'm tryna indulge in that
In my grey tracksuit, see the bulge in that
See the motion clap when you're throwin' it back (when you're throwin' it back)
These females plannin' on doin' me wrong
So I'm grabbin' a 'dom out the Trojan pack
Post the location after we're gone
Can't slip and let them know where we're at
I don't know about you but I value my life (but I value my life)
'Cause imagine I die (die)
And I ain't made a hundred M's yet
There's so much things I ain't done yet
Like fuckin' a flight attendant, huh
I don't party, but I heard Cardi there
So fuck it, I might attend it
Gotta kick back sometimes and wonder
How life woulda been if I never did take them risks
And would have I prospered?
Floatin' and I won't go under
Been outta town for a month
Absence made the love grow fonder
UK rap or UK drill
Gotta mention my name if you talk 'bout the genre (alright)
Ho-ho-how can I be homophobic?
(My bitch is gay)
Hit man in the top
Try see a man topless, even the stick is gay
Huggin' my bruddas and say that I love them
But I don't swing that way (way)
The mandem celebrate Eid
The trap still runnin' on Christmas day
Ho-h-how can I be homophobic?
My bitch is gay
Hit man in the top
Try see a man topless, even the stick is gay
Huggin' my bruddas and say that I love them
But I don't swing that way (way)
The mandem celebrate Eid
The trap still runnin' on Christmas day
